Google's HIPAA list includes the Gemini app and Gemini in Workspace
Google's list of Workspace services covered by its HIPAA BAA, last updated August 31, 2025 and checked on October 14, 2026, covers the Gemini app (excluding Gemini in Chrome), the Gemini Mac app and Gemini in Workspace for customers who have accepted Google's HIPAA BAA.
What the list says. Google’s list of Workspace services covered by its HIPAA business associate addendum (last updated August 31, 2025; checked October 14, 2026) includes the Gemini app (excluding Gemini in Chrome), the Gemini Mac app and Gemini in Workspace, alongside Gmail, Drive, Meet and the other core services.
What it means. A practice on an eligible Workspace edition with the BAA accepted can use Gemini with patient information, through staff’s managed Workspace accounts. Consumer Gemini on personal Google accounts and Gemini in Chrome are not covered.
What to do if you use Google Workspace with patient information.
- Confirm your Workspace edition is covered and the HIPAA BAA is accepted for your organization — the list applies only then.
- Decide who may use Gemini with patient information, and set access for the others.
- Tell staff that Gemini in Chrome and Gemini on personal Google accounts are outside the agreement, and add this to your AI rule (see AI tools and LLMs).
- Check the list again before relying on a new Gemini feature: Google dates it and changes it.
What we updated. A new Gemini in Google Workspace page in AI tools, and the Google Workspace page.
